5 quick tips for removing clutter

Anyone that knows me or has been to my place understands that I’m a super neat freak. Everything has its place and I clean often. I’ve written a few tips that I’ve either learned or picked up from other blogs that have helped me keep the clutter down.

It’s not just aesthetics either. Removing clutter helps you concentrate on important things and not be bogged down with mundane tasks such as going through a large draw full of papers just to find that one note you scribbled down that one time.

  1. Throw everything that can be easily reproduced away.
  2. Set aside a large box for things that you don’t often use. If the box hasn’t been opened in a month, it’s probably safe to chuck.
  3. When you buy an article of clothing, throw an equivalent away. Buy a shirt and then toss another.
  4. Never save menus left on your door by those ninjas that place them there. Instead just bookmark all your favorite delivery places in one folder. Almost every place has a menu online now so why have those piles of paper lying around?
  5. Digitize documents. Instead of having a file cabinet full of papers, get a cheap scanner and scan them all into PDF format. The stuff you still need to keep like birth certificate, and social security card only need a small box instead of a cabinet. You can also search through those PDFs unlike you could with those pieces of paper.
