Assholes
The guys over at Reuters are a bunch of assholes. I think Bush is an idiot like most people who make less than 200k a year and have an IQ over 100 but to criticize the following statement is ridiculous.
“It makes sense that if somebody is trying to harm our troops or stop us from achieving our goals or killing innocent citizens in Iraq, that we will stop them,” Bush said. “It’s an obligation we all have to protect our folks and achieve our goals.”
He was basically saying that if Iranian troops attack our troops that we will fight back. Duh! What the fuck you think would happen? Even in the United States you are authorized to use deadly force if in self defense so why should this be any different in another country? Bush is half retarded but give him a break. Not everything out of the guys mouth is rubbish.

the guys over at Reuters didn’t criticize Bush, they quoted other people who did. It was actually a pretty even-handed article explaining Bush’s perspective and what his critics are saying. This was a pretty unbiased article and very fair to Bush in not giving his critics any sort of instrinsic authority on the matter.
As far as the actual issue goes, it seems to be pretty much a no-brainer that U.S. troops should be allowed to do that. In fact they probably always were allowed to do that so there’s been no actual policy change. Also, noone has even criticized this point. So why it’s even a matter for Bush (or anyone) to address is a mystery to me. Red herring much?
The guys at Reuters didn’t criticize Bush or the statement. It was a very evenhanded and unbiased article that described the statement and his plan. It then cited some people’s criticism of *the plan*, not the statement. It also referenced Bush’s rebuttal to this criticism.
The article was especially fair to Bush in that it did not give any moral/intellectual superiority to the critics.
Insofar as the statement itself goes, it is a stupid one. American troops always had the right to do this, so there is no policy change here. Additionally, noone has really complained about this right. So why even bring it up? Smells like a red herring…
