Austin Museum of Art
I went to the local art museum this weekend. I can’t ever seem to understand how some things make it as art. There was a quilt made of heroin bags, a wall covered with old playing cards, and a TV on its side with a white line on it. I think the quilt made of heroin bags explains how these guys could see this crap as art.
There were a few pieces that were cool. They had this LCD display with a project someone did. It’s hard to explain but it was kinda like that game mousetrap where everything begets something else. For example; water might fill a bottle taped to a tired that make the tired roll forward which then knocks a candle over to a bucket of gasoline which flares up to burn a string holding back a lever that releases another tire. It was very intricate and long. We watched for 15 minutes and it still wasn’t over so it must have taken them a long time to set up.
They had a family area that was pretty much for kids but we sat down and made some shitty pieces of art. All in all it was a pretty fun day.
