Experienced some more downtime over the past couple of days. Something seems to have gone wrong with my server which isn’t surprising since it’s fairly old. Fucked up thing is that I don’t have access to the data center where it’s hosted and the guy that I pay to host it is taking forever to hook up the remote KVM.

In the meantime I’ve put everything up on my home machine and reverted DNS back here. Shitty thing is that my TTL was set to a week so this site may not be online to everyone for a while.

Lesson learned I guess. Keep my TTLs shorter and I think I’ll be hosting elsewhere. I just feel bad because my server hosts sites for friends as well and they are all down too. The only ray of light is that I have really good backups that are saved to Amazon S3. If anyone has a Linux server for hosting and is looking for a backup strategy, they are it. Very cheap, fast, and reliable. I have a Perl script for doing backups and pushing them out to S3 if anyone wants it.
