Getting fucked by the MPAA/RIAA

What’s with all the fuckin’ copyright bullshit lately? Everything that comes out has some sort of copyright or patent. What if the inventor of the wheel had required a fee for using the wheel? That would surely stifle innovation which is what all this shit today is doing.

Music, movies, and software should all be released from their copyrights after a given length of time. I would say approx 15 years for music and movies and 2 years for software. How much money is generated from 15 year old content? I’m sure it looks like a large number to most people but on the grand scale of things I would say not much. Who buys 2 year old software? No one really but it’s mostly still good. A 2 year old copy of Adobe Premiere or Photoshop would be fine in am armature learning the ropes who might someday work for a company that licenses hundreds of copies.

Of course companies would not generate as much profit but it’s not like they are in the bread line, but with the minimum wage not increased since 1997 and the cost of living rising every year many Americans are.

I think people are forgetting that we live in a Democracy where the people are king. The best vote you can make is with your dollar so instead of throwing down 16 bucks on a CD or 300 bucks on a piece of software, steal all you can from the internet. We will never get content prices to fall if we keep letting these people reach deep into our pockets. I for one am proud to have almost a terabyte of movies, shows, music, and software and not having paid anything for any of it.

/*In no way do I equate BSD with the MPAA or RIAA. I wanted a graphic of someone getting fucked in the ass and thought this did nicely. */
